BEIJING, October 27 (TMTPOST) — Beijing Winter Olympic Games is determined to achieve full carbon neutralization, Zhang Jiandong, deputy chairman of the event’s organizing committee announced at a press conference organized by the State Council Information Office. According to Zhang, the event’s carbon neutralization and environmental strategies include using an electricity grid powered by green energy, adopting CO2 coolant for the National Speed Skating Oval and other three venues, as well as repairing the ecosystem in Yanqing and Zhangjiakou. Wednesday marks the 99-day countdown to the Beijing Winter Olympic Games.

The sporting event’s organizing committee is proceeding with event service arrangements currently. It is reported that the committee had signed agreements with around a hundred hotels and came up with an accommodation arrangement that could comply with the local health authority’s guidelines for disease control and prevention. The organizing committee has also set up food supply headquarters for the games and selected catering service providers to meet different dietary needs of event attendants. A dedicated medical team has also been set up for the event. In addition, the organizing committee has confirmed with 41 medical units for support.

Beijing Winter Olympic Games also actively promote the use of hydrogen fuel, 5G telecommunication, cloud-based livestreaming technology, and artificial intelligence by adopting such technologies at the event. For instance, the event will be using new energy buses running on hydrogen fuel to shuttle game participants and organizing committee members, which is part of the organizing committee’s carbon neutralization plan. The organizing committee also works to improve energy management for the games’ venues and traffic, further reducing carbon emissions during the games.

Realizing carbon neutralization is an important commitment that Beijing made when bidding for the winter games. The Beijing games organizing committee vowed to implement sustainable and green measures to run the winter games and achieve carbon neutralization through low-carbon technologies and limiting carbon.
